台風６号は、ジャガイモの茎を寝かせた程度で行き過ぎました。 例年だと葉が枯れ始めるのですが、 まだまだ芋は大きくなるつもりです(^^♪。 My potato plants usually start dying back around this time, but this year they’re still growing.

タマネギの極早生、収穫の時期です。 今年はどういう訳か、茎が倒れず成長を続けています(^^♪。 Onions come in many types—from early varieties harvested in January to very late ones in June. I’m growing one of the very late varieties, and they’ll be ready to harvest before long.

昨年の夏、親戚からいただいた食用アロエ。 冬を越すにはビニールシートをかぶせるよう言われました。 すっかり忘れて、何もしなかったアロエ。 何とか再生を果たしました(^^♪。 Edible aloe is quite sensitive to the cold. I forgot to cover mine during the winter, and it almost withered away, but recently it has begun to revive. It makes me so happy to see it coming back.

お茶の発送も終わりホッとしています(^^♪。 セッコクの花が咲きました。 Dendrobium is a type of epiphytic orchid. The one my father cared for has come into bloom again this year.

お茶も、ほうじ茶も、紅茶も同じ茶葉から造ります。 けんジイさんの健康も若干危ういところはありましたが、 何とか一番茶を終えて、ホッとしています(^^♪。 Both green tea, roasted tea, and even black tea are all made from the same green‑tea leaves. This year my health was a bit uncertain, but I’m relieved that I was still able to carry out this seasonal　tradition.

山の家に泊まって新茶発送の準備をしています。 雨模様の天候もあり、夜はまだストーブが必要です。 When I spend the night at my mountain house, it’s still cold enough to need a stove.

立派なモリアオガエルは、 卵塊の真下に水があることを確認して産卵します。 そうでないカエルは所かまわず産卵します(-_-;)。 A fine frog makes sure there is water directly beneath the egg mass before laying its eggs. The less careful ones lay their eggs wherever they please.

雨が降るらしい。 あちらこちらにモリアオガエルが集まっている。 It looks like it’s going to rain, and the frogs seem happy.

オタマジャクシを水槽に入れたら、金魚が丸飲み。 オマケにもっと欲しいいと騒ぐ。 オタマジャクシが小さ過ぎました(^^♪。 When I put the tadpoles in the tank, the goldfish swallowed them whole. It seems they want more.
