トマトがあぶない

ヒヨドリか何かが、トマトを食べるようになりました。ネットをかけて収穫を待つことになりました(^^♪。 It seems that a brown-eared bulbul, or some similar bird, has taken a liking to the tomatoes. I’ve covered the plants with netting and will wait patiently for the harvest.

気田川鮎放流

７月ですから夏日か真夏日でしょう。猛暑日は水やりと野菜の収穫だけで、山を下ります。 Summer in Japan is known for its high humidity. It feels muggy rather than just hot, and many visitors find this quite challenging.

小玉スイカの結実

受粉後の一ヵ月で、美味しく仕上がる予定です(^^♪。里芋は収穫まで半年かかります。スイカの収穫はたった40日。でも長ぁ～～い40日です(^^♪。 I grow small watermelons every year, training the vines to climb up a net and letting the fruits hang as they grow.

猪のしぐれ煮

キウイ畑にて

ヘイワード摘果剪定整枝

キウイの摘果をしながら、立枝を切る剪定と整枝をします。整枝は本来の目的を離れ、鹿に葉を食べられないようにするために行います。キウイの葉は、鹿の大好物のようです。 Since wild deer love kiwi leaves, I fasten the branches so they won’t get eaten.

キュウリは育つ

今年はキュウリをあまり大きくなる前に収獲して、粕漬けにします。一度に沢山の若いキュウリを採るために、あちらこちらにキュウリの苗を植えました(^^♪。 Since cucumbers don’t have many recipes, it’s enough for me to harvest just a little each day. But this year I’m planning to make a sake‑lees pickle, so I planted many seedlings.
